I wish you could search a thread for the last dev response, instead of the first, as that is usually something worthless like commenting on an avatar pic or dumb post... anyhoo, back on topic:
CCP's general response to this issue has historically been "Not our problem, work with your ISP or find a VPN to use"... well its not my ISP as the tracert gets off my ISP's network, it fails when it hits Level13's network, and several times as it hops across the pond. This is something CCP should be on the phone with these backbone ISPs to investigate and resolve. Oddly enough when they were having a really bad time with this a while ago (back in March I think), traffic was routing through Level13 and thus failing, but then a change was made somewhere and it started going through as6453(?) and suddenly everything stabilized and I didn't get socket issues again until it started routing back through Level13 again. At some point shortly thereafter it changed to a different backbone and it got 100x better again (not sure specifically as it just lists IP addresses, but one name it shows is gblx.net), until which point it got put back through Level13 and I have continued to get socket disconnects several times a day.
Where I used to work, if we had a customer that was experiencing traffic issues on some other ISP's network or specific backbone, you bet your butt the network team was on the phone with that service provider to find a timely resolution. CCP needs to sack up and find the solution as it has been ongoing for a very long time.
Looks like I'll have to start logging daily tracerts so at the very least I can nudge CCP in the right direction. If anyone else is experiencing routine disconnects, I would suggest logging tracert results to see where in the route the packets are having issues. Just can't say you are using whatever ISP in some town, it helps to give them the info they need to take this to the next level (not that they actually will... more likely they will cop out and tell us to use VPN). |
